Robert Mackersie, M.D., specializes in trauma surgery. Dr. Mackersie is professor of surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and Director of Trauma Services at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Dr. Mackersie is attending surgeon and physician in the department
of surgery and critical care and the University of California, San Francisco. He served as commissioner of the Emergency Medical Services Authority of California and member of the ACS Committee on Trauma from 1998 to 2006, and he has been governor of the American College of Surgeons since 2003. Dr. Mackersie is a member of the American College of Surgeons Trauma
Systems Planning and Evaluation Committee, where he has been a member of its Committee on Trauma, Verification & Review. He has served on verification and consultation teams for the ACS and in private consultation in Levels I, II and III centers throughout the U.S.

Dr. Mackersie received his doctor of medicine degree at Michigan State University and a PhD in engineering science from the University of California at Berkeley.  He completed his residency and fellowships in trauma at the University of California at San Francisco.  He is Board certified in surgery with added qualification in critical care.  Dr. Mackersie is the author of 125 published articles, book chapters, commentaries and review articles in surgery, trauma surgery and trauma
systems.
